What is a good way to stop bitting my nails?

I have been bitting my nails for 21 years and I need a good way to help me stop someone please help. What is a good way to stop bitting my nails?
Nail biting is the habit of biting one's fingernails or toenails during periods of nervousness, stress, hunger, or boredom. It can also be a sign of mental or emotional disorder. The clinical name for nail biting is chronic onychophagia.

Negative Side-Effects

Biting the nails can result in the transportation of germs that are buried under the surface of the nail into the mouth. In fact, nail salons use tools that potentially affect a human in a similar way. “If [nail tools, such as files] are used on different people, these tools may spread nail fungi, staph bacteria or viruses,” warns Rick Lopes, a spokesperson for the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Thus, one can see that many pathogens have the ability to ';live'; inside of a nail, and because of this biting the nails can potentially cause health issues.

The reverse of this may also occur. A compulsive nail biter could also be tempted to bite not only the nail, but also the surrounding skin and cuticle, possible breaking skin and transferring opportunistic microbial and viral infections from their mouths onto their fingers or toes.

Nail biting also has the negative side effect of restraining the use of the hands. A compulsive nailbiter can be restricted in their ability to work (i.e. writing, typing, drawing, driving) because of the damage done to the nail or surrounding skin and/or anxiety in regards to the appearance of their nails.

A long-time habit of nailbiting may have detrimental effects on the substantia adamantinea of the front teeth, promoting caries in these areas.

Treatment

Medication

Nail biting has been shown to respond well to certain types of medication. The medications used to treat the problem include the newest, most potent anti-depressants. These medications are also used to treat Trichotillomania and OCD and include clomipramine, fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, citalopram, escitalopram, nefazodone and venlafaxine. Also, small amounts of the anti-psychotics used to treat schizophrenia such as risperidone, olazapine, quetiapine, ziprasidone, and aripiprazole can be used to augment anti-depressants. It is important to note that the use of anti-psychotics to treat nail biting does not necessarily indicate that the patient is suffering from psychosis.

Another option calls for the use of the B vitamin inositol. It reduces the urge to bite by enhancing the activity of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin may be implicated in OCD and related disorders.

Behavioral Therapy

Some patients have found behavioral therapy to be beneficial on its own or as a complement to medication. The first part of nail biting therapy consists of Habit Reversal Training (HRT), a four part process that seeks to ';unlearn'; the habit of nail biting and possibly replace it with a more constructive habit. In addition to HRT, Stimulus Control therapy is used to both identify and then eliminate the stimulus that frequently triggers biting urges.1.

The symptoms have been found to respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.

Other Treatment

Various forms of aversion therapy exist to help people stop biting their nails. These include methods such as coating the nails with a bad-tasting substance (sometimes in the form of a special nail polish) or wearing a rubber band on their wrist and having friends and family members snap it (or tell the nailbiter to snap it) when they see nailbiting. Some methods (including aforementioned aversion methods) can work by making the biter aware of their actions and finding other things to do. Keeping a record of when one bites may also be helpful in finding the root of the problem.

Some nail biters who undergo orthodontic treatment find that wearing a retainer or a bite plate makes it impossible for them to sever their nails with their teeth. This can have the unintentional side-effect of helping the individual to overcome their nail-biting habit.

Some nail-biters, however, find the effectiveness of all of these remedies to be poor. For them, it may take sheer determination to break the habit. Tactics they may find helpful include making a mental note to stop, promising oneself not to bite, and making it a New Year's resolution to stop.

Like other nervous habits, nail biting is sometimes a symptom of an emotional problem. In these cases, resolving the underlying problem can help to lessen or eliminate the nail-biting habit.

Some nailbiters find that hypnotherapy is a beneficial treatment.

To summarize, here are the tips to avoid nail-biting:

1. Trim (and polish) your nails.

This is a major way to stop nail biting. Trimming can be done and should be done by everybody, while nail polishing is applicable mainly for ladies over 12 or even older, though there are invisible nail polishes that can be applied by men as well. If your nails are trimmed, you will have less stuff for biting and unless you like the cuticles especially, you will simply be unable to bite your nails without biting the soft tissue under it. Since biting the soft tissue under the nail is very painful, chances are that even if you attempt to bite your nails, you will stop it immediately, at the first signs of pain.

Well, this might sound a little bit drastic, but unless you are masochistic enough, pain will remind you that you are doing something wrong. Also the sight of the perfectly-trimmed and cared of manicure reminds you that if you bite it, it is gone.

2. Stress and anxiety management.

If nail biting is your response to stress and anxiety, some stress management techniques help. One solution is to find another stress-reliever, preferably a healthy and nonirritating one – for instance drawing or writing.

3. Keep your hands busy.

This also helps a lot, especially if you are biting your nails while doing something else – waiting or watching TV, for example. If you have a small ball to squeeze, or even a pen to draw meaningless lines, this will keep your hands occupied and your nails are not in such danger anymore.

4. Paint your nails with a bitter-tasting polish.

This is for the hard addicts. There are many special formulas on the market that are just for you – they look good, don't damage your nails but taste awfully. Unless you get used to the taste, or even start liking it, the awful taste will cool down your desire to bite your nails.

5. Chew gum or mints.

Even if your hands are free, when your mouth is busy chewing something else, most likely you will not chew your nails. This tip is especially useful, if you have quit smoking recently and just need some other activity to replace it with.

6. Wear gloves.

Gloves are a physical barrier to biting your nails, so if you can wear gloves, for instance if you don't live in a hot place, or your coworkers will look at you at dismay, gloves can also be used to fight your bad habit.

7. Rubber bandages or stickers.

Putting bandages or stickers on your nails is another physical barrier to biting them. Well, you might look pretty funny in an outfit like this but if nothing else helps, you may try it.

The above listed tips for nail biting might not help everybody, especially those of you who have had this habit all their life. Giving up nail biting completely is very difficult but if you give up and don't keep trying, you might never be able to have healthy nails. What is a good way to stop bitting my nails?
I know there is a product they used to make that you could by at the drug store. I got some for my friend back in high school. Look in the nail polish section. You paint it on like a clear polish but it has a very bitter taste.

Good Luck!
You can put a nail polish like a hardener that taste really bad, or you can scrap a bar of soap at get soap it your nails , so it taste abd when you bit them.

Cut and trim your nails safely and frequently. For changing the bitting habit eat continuously the candies.
I treid everything listed %26amp; nothing worked (yes, I even bit off fake nails %26amp; yucky tasting stuff)..... what finally worked for me was rubbing my nails thru actual habanero peppers...

This made my fingers sting a bit. Created problems when I rubbed my eyes %26amp; I had to learn extra padding toilet paper wiping techniques.... but IT WORKED

Problem is I had to do this @ 45 days in a row to get the habit to change long enough to ';Stick';
try chewing gum or carry around some mints with you, they will keep your mouth busy and you will be less likely to put ur fingers in ur mouth

when i was little my mom used to put spices on my fingers so i wouldnt bite my nails and if i did bite them the spices would sting and i would think twice about doing it again lol but i think you're probably too old for that trick
remember germs if you bite your nails thinkof how many people touch the stuff you touch and does not wash their hands.just because you wash your hands it does not mean everyone does it.yeah that's nasty.
fake nails
try to see under telescope u'll hateto bite it cuz theres like bacterias moving aorund like bugs nails are the durtiest part of the human body
I have a similar problem. However, I'm starting to get better about it. Here's why: I'm an art major. I'm taking the three messiest art classes and I work at an oil change place. I can't get my hands clean, nor can I get all the crap out from under them, so I can't bite my nails. It's gross, but it seems to be breaking the habit....
i was desperate to i would put really gross things on my nails.

nail polish/remover does not work.

i HATE ketchup and i would spread just a little on there...it made me stay away!
tabasco sauce on the ends
You should regularly cut your nails, you can also buy this special medicated nailpolish that you use for that problem you buy it from your nearest local pharmecist just ask them and they'll get it for you. What you do is you apply it on so that when you start biting your nails it tastes horrible that way you gradually break your habit because it wont taste nice any more
There is this fingernail polish like stuff. It goes on like fingernail polish and it tastes really nasty. That is how I have helped three of my friends to stop biting their nails and my brother to stop sucking his thumb.
Paint them....and the paint will tase bitter when u chew...and should prevent u from biting them....there is also a special nail polish u can use...that they make hard to take off...and really bitter ....http://www.nailcareguide.com/orly-no-bit…

How do I stop biting my nails?

Its been a habit since I was 3 years old. I really want to stop, and I bite them down to almost nothing! Does biting nails affect me in any way?How do I stop biting my nails?
There is supposed to be a nail polish that tastes nasty when you get it near your mouth, thus supposedly preventing you from biting them. That has never worked for me. I've bitten mine since I was 2, and the only thing that helped me quit was having fake nails put on. As soon as they came off though, I was straight back to biting them. How do I stop biting my nails?
Always have a pack of gum then if you chew your nails you get nails in the gum ha ha ha. You wouldn't like that would you?
I used to bite my nails too. Looking at your picture (I'm assuming your a guy) I put bleach on the tips of my fingers, that way, whenever I went to bite, there was an awful taste in my mouth! If your a girl (u might want to change your picture) you can paint your nails because I never chew my nails with polish on.
at the drug store their is this stuff you can get for biting nails its called better sweet and once you put your fingers in your mouth you will never do it again please believe
Hi. I had the same habit..bad habit...sincerely when i read what you said i wondered....since when i am I biting my nails?? sincerely i can not remember the day i started...but i can tell you that being a girl it is horrible to have ugly nails...everybody got used to the fact that i am a bit abnormal...i did the same...practically i had no nails at all....

So..as far as i observed myself i am a very nervous person...and by biting my nails i calmed down in a way...Smoking didn't work, i took destressing pills..didn't work at all.

I don't know in what certain situation do you find yourself biting yr nails. I found myself dooing it while reading, while having butterflies in my stomach..like before exams..or while waiting for the results..generally in great stress situations..

So..in my family it was a hobby that everybody had in a certain way...but they all got rid of it..but me...

It is a few weeks since i decided that i had stop...why?? because my fiance has been smoking for years...he decided he would stop but could't do it all alone. so i said that if he made an effort i would too...and my nicotine were my nails..so I had to give up too. It was't easy and i had no ideea what to do..because i felt the need...

I found in shops nail strenghtening products.;and more interresting some which have a very bad taste but which help nails regenerate quite quickly.

So i bought a maniqure set, i polished as fine i coud my bitten nails. and then i used the product.

All i had to care about was to be aware that my nails won't broke,, or exfoliate so i won't bite the small pieces again.

So that's my story...now the only problem is that i have 2 that are quite diformed..but they are healing...little by little...

Hope i was useful for you...and let me know if i can help you with something else.

Bye

Bea
yes-it's dirty- you're hands touch everything and ur putting them in ur mouth-not mentioning how ugly bit nails look even on a guy- get a hot pepper and rub your nail only on the inside (seeds etc) -just don't touch ur eyes-or put clear nailpolish on-it tastes yucky
Stuck on polo's instead.
Try chewing a pen !

also rub ginger or pepper on ur nails ..
Stick them in something really strong that tastes really bitter. I have no idea what but if you're fingers taste nasty, you won't want to put them anywhere near your mouth.
Put a matte natural polish or ridge filler on them. It will help them grow a bit %26amp; you will hate biting it off...

Make sure it's matte or else it will look girly.
paint clear nail polish on the nail that you bite the most. and yes if you've bit them for so long, theirs a possibility that you have some teeth problems because of it. maybe i'm wrong and you have perfect teeth, but the truth is it CAN damage your teeth and besides the habit isn't too attractive. hope this helps =)
apply nail bite to your nails
I Guess Try Not To Think About It.
i have the same problem and i start getting really bad stomach aches when i bite them. there is some stuff that make your nails taste horrible and its hard to get rid of too soo try that
Try wearing gloves. That is the best advise I can think of. Good luck.
you can buy a special nail polish which come uo clear but has such a vile taste to it when you go to bite it tasted so rankl you think again. i was also going to suggest getting false nails as taht stops you chewing your own nails but from looking at your avatar youre a man and i donr think you will be too happy waering false nails lol
THINK OF ALL THE GERMS GOING IN YOUR MOUTH.!!!!!!! YUMMY.
There are some products, nail polishes which are for this reason and taste bad, also you could put artificial strong nails that make it difficult to eat them BUT everything depends on you, on how badly do you want to quit his habit! You don't have to use anything just believe in you and stop it...! Needs power and strong will ;o)
you dont quit bitting your nails i have been for years
Scratch your bare butt hole and you won't bite your nails. The stink will remind you of the nastiness.
Get some clear nail polish. Then, when you go to bite you have a nasty taste in your mouth. Or, I believe there are products out there that you can put on your nails that, when you bite them, you have a bitter taste in your mouth.
Just stop that's what I did. Good luck.

How do you stop biting your nails?

I've tried painting them with nail polish, but all I do is peel that off and bite them again. I know some guy came up with a cure, but I don't have the money for that. How do you stop biting your nails?
there's this nail polish you can get that makes your nails taste really bad when you bite them but i forgot what it's called. How do you stop biting your nails?
I can't polish my nails, I just end up picking at it and peeling it off and it takes the top layer of my nails off too. I started keeping a nail file with me and filing my nails when I am in the mood to bite. I just file enough to reshape them etc. I think that by concentrating on shaping them and making them pretty I've gotten out of the habit of biting. Supposedly if you do or don't do something for two weeks, you will have broken an old habit and started a new one. My nails have grown out nicely. They were kind of brittle and would break a lot but I found information on-line about keeping them moisturizing them to keep them from breaking. I now put lotion on my hands and work it into my fingernails every day. They have stopped breaking so much.
Learn to relax. Try meditation, yoga, deep breathing, therapy. You can take a class for that. You can also use some supplements that will help you relax (like Bliss http://www.marketamerica.com/pulse99/ind鈥?/a> )
it's an OCD issue......i suggest you ask your doctor.
Put hot pepper underneath them. It should work.

Nails......?

What are cuticles? lol. I seriously don't know what they are. Haha.Nails......?
Cuticles-The strip of hardened skin at the base and sides of a fingernail or toenail.Nails......?
Cuticle is a skin that grown on your nail.(At the bottom of the nail where it starts.)

  • Nails..???

I have really bad nails. They are brittle, they crack and rip into layers, they don't grow evenly and they are not tough at all. How do I fix this?!? I kind-off just want to get fake nails because they have nice patterns on them and they hide my gross nails. Any advice? Oh and by the way I want my nails to be long.(real nails)

    Thank you!!!!!Nails..???
you should try the hardening and vitamin enriched clear nail polish. it hardens you nails and gives them vitamins and minerals to get long and strong. The fake nails are only going to make you real nails even worse. They also might come off easily if you real nails arent stable enough.

    =]Nails..???
you should buy sally hansen's products that are just perfect for your '; kind of '; nails it helps your nails grow stronger and faster (: so you wont have to go through all the troubles with acrylics.
    just get acrylics
Go to a beauty saloon and do a manicure... It will make your nails look beautiful and it will also give it a shape. They will give you some advices of how to keep your nails... Be careful with your nails also...
Nooooo! absolutely NO fake nails! they cause problems for even the best nails.
Try using a nail hardener, it's just like a nail polish that hardens your nails!

Buying fake nails would be a good idea to hide your nails, but when the time comes 2 take them off, it might make them even weaker.

    Good luck ;-)
Nail harderner may help you. Forget about Salley Hansen.. it doesn't work well for very weak nail. You may try ';Nailtek';.. I think can only get from nail salon. Ask the manicurist, they should able to advise which one is best for you. It can make your nail stronger and grow longer. Fake nail. acrylic nail will make your problem worst.
As a licensed professional in the nail industry .this is my advice to you........I'd recommend you go to a professional Salon for manicures .....with the kind of nails you describe it will be next to impossible to have the long natural nails you seek as the cracking and splitting will not let this be achieved ......the nail tech will be-able to help you take care of your nails and give you an informed decision should you decide to choose enhancements. An FYI enhancements don't ruin nails.......its a crappy technician that can ruin natural nails!
i've heard of a sally hansen product called hard-as-nails... that might be of help.
blah ! grow em' out and keep fileing them with a nail file ?

so a whole new nail could grow out and ur nail should be

alot stronger and put lotion on the side of ur nails and on the

cuticle so the skin around ur nail doesnt break n peel !

Safest way to hold a kitten when clipping his nails?

I have a kitten who squirms and squirms if I go to cut his nails. He's still very small and hard to hold on to. Whats the safest way, if I have no one around to help me, to hang onto him to cut his nails without me hurting him/him hurting himself from all the wiggling?Safest way to hold a kitten when clipping his nails?
Wrap him in a towel and only take the paw you need out.Safest way to hold a kitten when clipping his nails?
You should invest in these things called (soft paws) they are rubber slips that fit over the kittens claws this is a much safer alternative to cutting his nails (you could also take him to a groomer). hope this helps.

HELP! Is there an easy way to hammer small nails (straight) into insulation around door frames? I can't hold

them - they are too small!HELP! Is there an easy way to hammer small nails (straight) into insulation around door frames? I can't hold
Needle nose pliersHELP! Is there an easy way to hammer small nails (straight) into insulation around door frames? I can't hold
Go to the hardware and ask for a magnetic tack hammer the head is magnetized and will hold the nail on it and you just tack it in place and then finish hammering it in.
Buy a arrow staple gun for about 12.00
Well, I would get a cordless drill, and a small (1 or 1.5mm) hss metal bit, thats just a teeny bit smaller than the nails. Pre-drill (where you intend each nail to go) the holes to about half the depth of the length of the nail. They should go in nice and straight.
get some needle nose pliers and hold the nail in them and whack away
    use a nail gun!
use sticky tac - put a gob, push the nail in where you want it and hammer, then remove sticky tac.
A small nail or brad gun would be best.

    http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=pr鈥?/a>
    small tooth comb
If its going to be covered with other materials you may be able to just simply tape it there.

    Use a wall stapler.

Use an electric brad nailing gun.
Get a small plastic bag (Like a zip lock) stick the nail through the bag. It will hold the nail. Now hold the bag a safe distance so you don't hit your finger when hammering. I'm not sure what you are doing with insulation and nails near trim, but good luck with it!
Stick the nail through a piece of paper as a ';handle'; till you get the nail started.
Can you hold something larger like a clothespin? If so, just clip the clothespin around the nail or screw, and hold the clothespin in place and hammer away!!
    use your roach clip
Besides hemostats or something like that, there is a tool that has a hollow tube that is springloaded that holds trim nails in it that you hold in the palm of your hand.

How do I stop biting my nails?

I always bite my nails and it's beginning to annoy me cause my fingernails always look gross. Is there something to stop this addiction? Thanks! How do I stop biting my nails?
I just stopped biting my nails. What I did is I was promised by a friend that she and her mom would take me to a nail place and get them done. The only way they would take me is if I stopped biting my nails. If something like that doesn't work, there is also a nail polish you can buy at a drug store that you put on and when you go to bite your nails, you get a bad taste so you stop. How do I stop biting my nails?
There used to be some kind of stuff that you could paint on your nails that was a clear polish, but it tasted really really gross. The whole point was when you went to bite the nails, the nasty taste put you off. My mom was going to try this with me when I was a kid. Instead, she bought me a charm bracelet, and a beautiful ring. She felt if other people looked at my jewelry, and additionally, if I did, maybe it would add additional focus onto my good features and make me take this negative emphasis off what I was doing to destroy my looks. I went round and round on this ';cycle'; for some years, and one day in High School, I decided I just was sick and tired of having trashy looking nails. Aren't you-----really? I don't know if you are a professional person, or what the deal is, but maybe, you should go get an artificial set put on, and see if they look nice to you--nice enough for you to keep your mouth off of them. I am not trying to insult you, or be mean. It has to be embarassing, and if you have a semi-instant ';cure';, of sorts, it might give you some willpower. Then yours can grow underneath.
i think you should go out and buy the nastyest lotion you can and put them around your fingers.so everytime you try to bite your finger nails the lotion will come in the way and stop you from biting your nails!
There is a brand of clear nail polish specifically to help people stop biting their nails. It tastes nasty, so then they won't want to bite their nails.
get a manicure once a week for 2 monthes. then ur nails are 2 pretty to bite. also u will think of how much money u are spending!!!!
Start wearing Bite No More or Bite Free. It has helped me. I used to have to wear it all the time. It helps your nails grow faster, i think. At the present, my nails are long and they, for once, didn't get that way because I used Bite Free. I didn't use a single drop. But, really, that Bite Free stuff is great for long fingernails and it's not very expensive. You don't have to use it as frequently as the bottle says. Once / day or every other day would probably suffice. I have had one bottle for at least a year and a half. It it just now starting to run out.

You can find it at a local drug store--5 second Bite Free Nail Treatment. It's only $2.99

    Good luck!

    PS~This stuff tastes terrible! lol
yeah find a piece of gum or some candy to chew on when you are thinking about biting on your nails that should do he trick.
yeah there is this brand of nail vanish that taste mingin and then you want bite them thats how horrible its is
I used to bite my nails alot! I quit about four months ago, COLD TURKEY and WILL POWER! You have to have the will to stop. It's bad for your teeth (grinding movement wears down your teeth), it's dirty (there is alot of gunk under your nails), and it looks real bad. Good luck!
It is surely a habit and habits can be broken. Use acrylic or some nail wrap for a while and during that time you will stop. Habits usually take about 3 to 7 days to break. Try using the nail wraps for at least one month.
The nail polish only works for some people. My grandma tried it on me when I was a kid and yes it does taste extremly nasty but since I've always been a very nervous %26amp; fidgety person I would wind up picking it off. Plus if you eat any foods with your hands forget it. If you accidently get that taste in your mouth it ruins it.

I did figure out what I was doing that would make me bite my nails. If I sit down to watch I movie I bite. If I'm concentrating on something hard I bite. If a nail chips or peels I bite.

Quiting nail biting is like quiting smoking (minus the nicotine withdrawls). Keep you hands busy and keep them neat. I can't afford to go get manicures so I do it at home, something I can do while watching tv. Keep a GOOD pair of nail clippers %26amp; emery board handy at all times in case of any breaks. I have a set in my purse %26amp; in my car. This will keep you from biting it off. Have a coach. Mine is my 4 year old daughter anytime she sees me I hear ';Mommy quit eating your fingers'; .Having someone else draw attention to helps believe me.
Yeah I do this too So I just get acrylics put on they look pretty and I never bite them Good luck I know it is hard to stop.

How do you stop biting your nails?

I have a huge habit of biting my nails, and I need it to stop. This habit has been going on for years! I didn't care before, but now I am not a young child and appearance matters to me. I am in 7th grade and I want pretty nails. But that'll never happen with my short nails. I need tips, and fast! How do you stop biting your nails?
Stop doing it! Polish them so when you bite them, you bit off polish ant that's not really something you want to do. Or get fake acrylic nails because you can't really bite those off.How do you stop biting your nails?
Go to a salon and get your nails done, maybe get a french manicure. You won't want to ruin it, so you wont bite them. Maybe try putting something on your fingers like vinegar. Or you can even do your own nails, which will hopefully keep you from biting them.

Everytime you bite your nails, get yourself to stop and eventually you wont be biting anymore :)

    http://www.youtube.com/applexxgreen
I bit my nails for 30 years and just stopped 3 months ago. I tried hypnosis, painting my fingers with hotsauce, chewing gum, polishing my nails, wearing gloves and none of it worked. Then about three months ago I used a system that help me identify when I was biting my nails like a trigger. Some people use a rubberband on their wrist and snap it when they are going to bite their nails. I did not use a rubberband, I used a verbal trigger.

Every person needs to figure out what works for them. As you can see I did alot of trial and error before I actually stopped. But part of your battle is already won...you want to stop. My 11 year old has no interest in quiting. Check out this article for more ideas on how to quit.
here are some ideas: get those fake long nails so every time you are about to bite them, they're there to remind you to stop, or you could try putting hot sauce or dirt in/on them. Hope I helped! Good luck!
I bit my nails all of my life until I was out of college...

the only way I have been able to stop biting mine is by keeping them painted all of the time !

    I

they look prettier that way all around !

    good luck!!!
There's some stuff you can buy to put on your nails so if you bite them it tastes nasty and you stop. Presto.
put nail polish remover on your nails and rub it off...when you bite your nails youll stop cuz it tastes reeaaalllllyyy bbaaaadd...dont ask just do
Oh god, yeah, I hated it too. I seriously hated nail polish. Get a nail filer and some nbail clippers. best of Luck %26lt;3
    put nail polish on

then you wont want to bite them
    chew on gum, :)

If they are minor then a light buff will help also try using a gentle buffing paste but as buffing is very fine filing, this will, over time, thin the nail plate if done too regularly.

You could also use a good coverage ridge filling basecoat.

How can I make my natural nails healthier after removing my acrilyc nails?

Yes trim them back all the way so when they grow out they are not weak... Remember they buffed them up so they may be thin and may require a few trims. and of course use some of the products that repair nails and make them strong.

They will be lovely within a couple of months.

What are your fav colors to paint your nails and toenails?

Since summer is just around the corner..what are you fav colors to paint your nails %26amp; toenails??

What color are they painted right now?

my toenails are painted white at the moment %26amp; my nails are hot pink =]What are your fav colors to paint your nails and toenails?
Pink, there's lots of different shades too What are your fav colors to paint your nails and toenails?
right now my fingernails are fuchsia and my toenails are a metallic-ish blue-purplish color. my fave fingernail polish color is an orange-hot pink color and i really like my toenails painted in the color i have on them right now, but once it gets to summertime i'll probably paint them a hot pink color. i also really like neon colors for my fingernails
For nails, I love white :)

Like how Miley Cyrus has them. There are recent pics

of her with white nail pollish.

Or I like a clear, or blue or purple. And green is awesome, especially when I'm in a preppy mood :)

And for toenails, I love white, haha. And rainbow.

My friend painted them like skittle colors before, it was so funny%26lt;3

    But cute xD
Pink is always good. Sometimes i do a blue, green, maybe a yellow. uuhh, I do purple, and white, red, orange, and MAYBE black. Depends. uuhh....Sometimes i just don't do it one color, do like, french nails and stuff. But, those are the colors i use.
    Coral, purple, red, blue.

I love bright coloured nails. But i also like really calm neutral tones.

    Depends on what i'm wearing.

Right now they are bare because i planned on giving myself a little manicure tonight, but got distracted.

So tomorrow i'm going for a reddish pink colour :)
I like bright off the wall colors on my toes. Right now I have on a gorgeous fuchsia. I enjoy a bright orange, green, hot, hot pink or even a glorious yellow.

I leave my nails pink and white because I use my hands a lot and nail polish fades too quickly.
i always do hot pink, unless there is a school game or show ect then they are red with yellow letters spelling ';MOUAT'; (on the left) and ';HAWKS'; (on the right)

my toes are usually a light shade of pink and or light/deep shade of whatever my fingers are.
RED is definitely the best color to paint nails ever. I think they're so classy.. darker red for the winter, and lighter red for the summer.

I also like to paint my nails really dark blue for summer because it reminds me of sailors %26amp; nautical things!
Well, it's not really a summer color, but I often paint them a light shimmery silver. It's simple, chic, and goes with everything. I like really crazy color, too...oranges, blues, neons, bright magentas, etc. =D
My nails are painted black.(i just painted them, and no im not emo //_;)

i just like the color. its classy. but my fav is french manicure. but i have to go to the salon for that bc i dont have a steady hand :(

your combo sounds really pretty :)
It may be spring but this year its all about wild colors.Currently my nails are painted marine scene(clorine colored blue with shimmer) toenails simple pink.right now bronze shimmer gold and blues( no blacks) yellow ,oranges and simple pinks and red if u want.
I like to paint them electric blue, a really bright orange, white and sometimes black on my fingernails, never toes. It looks gross.

Right now my fingernails are white and my toenails are pink.
eh...i like black. I also like red and neon colors are pretty cool. Especially for summer. But that's just my opinion. And right now my nails are a really pretty dark purple almost black.
I like pink or a red, i normally dont paint my nails, and my toes have a french tip i like to keep it classy. but im sure ill will switch it up.
I love to paint my nails...

    -coral pink/orange

-white with a gold shimmery over-coat

    -light sky blue

    -bright purple

they are pink coral right now
dark colors: purple, brown, black, ...

but in the Summer, I use the other colors, sometimes

    ~*~
    for nails... hot pink

    toes.... black

    right now,.... fingers are peach

    and toes are creamy pink

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?…
right now mine are like a sapphire blue...i use black, pink, i have a really pretty green, and the blue which is my fav
Red!!! My fingernails are red right now (the summery, bright kind of red) and, because I didn't feel like painting my toenails, I just left them the color they were last week: pink. :D
hot pink rocks. ..love the one with sparkles.

i also like crimson red for more formal/sexy affairs but hot pink for casual is fun.
Well, since I'm 40 I have a french manicure on my hands and my toenails are dark red.

But if I was still young enough to pain them any color at all, they would both be black!! :)
my toes are either orange and greeen most always, and my fingers are usually pink, red or orange.
I don't usually paint my nails, but I occasionally do my toenails.

I always paint them a bright, rich red. It works well with my pale skin.
HOT PINK! RED 4 TOENAILS, HAWT PINK 4 FINGER NAILS!
    hmm

    a really dark purple somtimes.

or a crimson red with a clear coat on top.

i also like light cute summery colours

light blue light purple pink light greeen

it gets you into the mood :)
Coral is really nice and yellow

thats how i paint mine well not both at the same time though one color at a time
black, because i like to cut myself

personally on girls i prefer white and red.
something original like blue, green, or something like that! my toes are dark blue right now ^_^
Neon colors like Hot pink, lime green, electric blue, lemon yellow and I like having french tips. =]
a frenchie, pink, purple, or emerald.
    black, purple, white, basically anything i guess but those are the main ones X }}

Do the caps you put on the dogs nails to prevent scratching on the hardwood floors worK?

we just put a new beautiful hardwood floor in with a medallion in the middle. we want to get a dog but we do not want the floor scratched.Do the caps you put on the dogs nails to prevent scratching on the hardwood floors worK?
The caps come off, and are on the expensive side. Also, the one dog I've seen have it done, screamed bloody murder when getting them applied. This same dog was always fine for his nails being trimmed, and having them pushed on to his toes seemed to be painful. I refused to apply them to any dog after seeing this. I felt bad for the dog.

Some dogs have long quicks (the nerve inside the nail) naturally and you won't be able to take the nails as short as you'd like. Weekly nail trims can help to make the quicks recede. Some groomers offer free nail trims in between grooms if you are a regular grooming client. Others charge between 5-15 dollars to get nails done.Do the caps you put on the dogs nails to prevent scratching on the hardwood floors worK?
I have hardwood flooring as well, I also have five dogs and a cat. My dogs weight ranges from 11 pounds all the way up to 120 pounds. We've only had to buff out one or two scratches, and its only when we skip a grooming trip.

As long as you keep the nails trimmed and filed down, you'll be fine. However, if you skip a grooming trip, you're bound to find a scratch or two, but they can be buffed out or even filled in, depending on the depth and length.

I wasn't aware that they had caps for dogs' nails, I knew they had them for cats, but not for dogs.
The smaller the dog / the more diligently you keep the nails trimmed down / covered the fewer problems you'll have. Our vet sells some stuff that melts down like paraphen (like hot wax) that you can tip trimmed nails in. Just realize its going to be a lot of upkeep. Best bet is a small dog that won't make big gouges and do regular manicures ;). The actual caps tend to come off a lot in my experience.
if your dogs nails are kept at the proper length then they should not touch the floor, if your dog has dark nails and you don't want to clip them yourself you can get a vet or groomer to show you the right length to keep them.
Just don't let in the room with the wood floors.

Or have it as an outdoor pet, if you have a fenced in yard.

I've never heard of caps over dogs nails.
Small dog with nails clipped. Not declawed, clipped. Problem happened with my teacher's dog. Kept clomping around and making noise during piano lessons
A smaller dog will not scratch it, and neither will a big dog if you keep them trimmed properly. We have a 45 pound dog and a 25 pound dog, no scratches yet!
Try having the nails drimmeled instead of clipped. That way there are no sharp nail edges. Just rounded off smooth short nail.
Keep the dogs nails clipped, and scratch marks will be kept to a minimum. Have the groomer do the nails monthly.

  • What framing nails go in a bostitch n16 >?

I have a Bostitch N16 nail gun and cant get the right nails. Its an older model and the newer nails I get at the Depot dont work. Anyone have a few nails laying around with the numbers on the box. Thanx GeneWhat framing nails go in a bostitch n16 %26gt;?
not 100% sure, this site might help. Found some #'s for you, but check with pictures of your nailer on the site to be sure. What framing nails go in a bostitch n16 %26gt;?
It seems to take a clipped head nail that is wire collated. An unusual combination, to say the least. I found a place that carries them, but you may want to search with some of the other nail gun models to see if you can find them locally, or at least cheaper online. Good luck.
You need to go to home-depot or Lowe's for this info. the nails have a degree angle on them and if it is not right they will not work. And some are held together with paper and some with plastic.

What is a good way to make your nails grow?

What is a good way to make your nails grow? What is a good way to make your nails grow?
don't bit themWhat is a good way to make your nails grow?
There's some special nail polish out there that you can buy at Wal-Mart or any ol' place that specifically says it's to lengthen and strengthen your nails within a matter of days or weeks. But if you live in a cold area, or it's in the cold months, your nails, much like your hair, will grow slower. The warmer the weather is, the faster your nails grow. Not significantly, though. So don't depend on the weather alone. Look at that polish. :)
Nail growth, like hair growth and height is sort of a genetic thing so if they are getting to a certain length and stopping, that might be why. If they peel or tear or are weak, you can encourage healthy growth by using a nail hardener. Nailtiques has a few different kinds for different problems. Nailtek is the generic and works just as well and is about half the price. Also, don't use your nails as tools.
Use nailpolish that help make your nails

    grow.

They are a sign of a lack of calcium and vitamins in one's diet. What are those little white dots in your nails stand for?
Sometimes it can be a calcium deficency. (Not enough of it.) Sometimes it can be from bumping your hand on something. Kinda like mini bruises under your nail.
    it is where you hit your finger...but some people say that ';It is how many men you will date';
They are bruises from bumping your fingernail on something.
it's a sign of malnutrition or a lack of vitamins
    vitamin defency. my opion?
    Lack of calcium.
    Calcium deposits.

Funny how many people said ';Lack of calcium';. That's a myth. :)

It's not because there's not enough, it's from having TOO MUCH. It is from NOT ENOUGH zinc. Zinc helps break down calcium in one's body. Too much calcium and not enough zinc to help the body absord it and BAM, you have calcium deposits. It's common and no big deal.

If the body has too much calcium, it can form calcium deposits. Calcium in the fingernails make them so soft they tear instead of break.
.bruises yes nails get bruised too
that indicates that ur body needs more vitamines and calciam

Do finger nails grow faster at sea level?

I was once told that finger nails, toe nails, and hair grow faster at sea level than they would in say Denver, Colorado. Your thoughts please.Do finger nails grow faster at sea level?
at high altitudes, there is less oxygen. Oxygen is required for cellular resipiration to produce ATP and as we all know ATP is provides the energy to carry out metabolic functions like cell division. So in this way it is possible for slower growth of fingernails at higher altitudes but it definately will not be noticable.

Furthermore, at higher altitudes the the air pressure is lower which can lead to altitude sickness. some symptoms of this are loss of appetite, vomitting etc. so pretty much you eat less and anything you eat comes out so the body receives less nutrients. less nutrients=slower cellular division=slower nail growth

Vitamin E will help make nails stronger and help them to grow.

Also, the addition of gelatin to your diet will help. It can be obtained by eating a serving or two of gelatin dessert each day, or buying plain gelatin [available at most grocery stores and supermarkets] and following the directions for mixing in a glass of water.

  • How Can I get rid of the skin peeling off of my nails?

It looks horrible when it peels and i wanna know how to stop it!How Can I get rid of the skin peeling off of my nails?
I have the same problem and use Avoplex Exfoliating Cuticle Treatment. It is the best way to get rid of hangnails, excess cuticles, and peeling skin. It is an AHA product so do not use it if you have any bleeding areas or it will sting.

To prevent this I apply Aquaphor Healing Ointment or any cuticle oil (Solar Oil, OPI Avoplex) to my nails and fingertips each night. Vaseline or lip balm (Chapstick) will work too. If it is really bad I use Neosporin. Then I apply a heavy duty hand creme.

Keeping your nails well conditioned is the key to reducing peeling.

Avoid harsh, drying hand soaps and wear gloves when doing the dishes.

Try to re-apply moisturizer throughout the day.

If you live in a cold climate, wear mittens or gloves to protect your hands.

Finally, avoid using a nail cutter. File your nails down instead. File in one direction when your nails are dry. Use a nail file designed for weak, peeling nails. Revlon makes a good one.How Can I get rid of the skin peeling off of my nails?
Get a tool that files, smoothes, buffs and shines them. They look like nail files, but long and chunky. It's all one piece. You can get them from the grocery story or whatever. My nails peel bad, then I use this and it cuts down on it a lot. Then paint them clear for a few days, take the polish off and do it again. Eventually they won't peel as bad...you can never stop them frlom peeling but this has worked wonders for my nails.
I use the Barielle cuticle cream and it moisturizes really well. Helps my nails grow, too.

How can you take off nails that you put on your-self without hurting?

I went to the Dollar Tree, and I got these nails and nail glue. Later when im settled with them on I realize some got on my fingers... which makes them feel rough. Anyway, im ready to take off these nails and I need a way to get them off, without hurting Can you help me?How can you take off nails that you put on your-self without hurting?
Do NOT peel them off it WILL hurt and will damage your own nail. Nail varnish remover with acetone will get home stickies off or pop to a chemist and ask for acetone

Top tip for removing nails..... soak half a cotton wool ball in acetone/nail varnish remover place on fingernail and wrap fingertip in kitchen foil. Wrapping creates a little body heat which speeds up the process and the foil prevents the acetone evaporating. How can you take off nails that you put on your-self without hurting?
Go to your local Walmart and in the nail polish department around the remover they have acrylic nail remover. USE IT. I have to get fake nails all the time and in order for it to be cheaper I have to sometimes go to buy them at walmart and I always use the remover to take them off. Try not to leave them on for too long. It can ruin your nail. The day after the event I usually take them off.
i think you should run your nails under hot water and then peel them off. it wont hurt after the water and peels off easier.

Any Ideas on How I can quit the habit of biting my nails?

Its kinda gross and plus i wanna grow them out. Got any suggestions?Any Ideas on How I can quit the habit of biting my nails?
There's a product called ';Control-it.'; It's specifically meant for that. I know you can buy it online, but why don't you ask a pharmacist in a big drug store if they have anything.

Or, if you have the money, you could get acrylic nails at a manicurist shop. They're beautiful, the nail polish does not come off, and there's no way you could bite them. You'd want a ';full set'; first ($35-$40) and then ';fills'; every 2 and a half weeks. (Under $20.) After a couple months your nails would be grown out. So it they were well-shaped and strong, you wouldn't need the acrylic anymore. Just a thought.....Any Ideas on How I can quit the habit of biting my nails?
i bit my nails for a long time... i didn't use any products. i just tried to keep my mind off of it and my friends and family helped out whenever they saw me biting or picking my nails they would smack my hands. also whenever i would get ready to bite my nails and i would put in some chewing gum instead and tell myself No, now i actually have to cut my nails and i swear i will never get into the bad habit ever again.
I have heard that you can buy a liquid (at a chemist?) that you spray or paint onto your finger nails. Apparently it tastes foul and should put you off the nail biting habit. Ask at your chemist or see your local doctor. Good luck with that.
There is this nail polish stuff you can put on there that tastes god awful. helped one of my girl friends kick the habbit it will work for you too i bet
Perhaps chewing gum all day long might help as your teeth will be so busy chewing that you won't have time to bite your nails.

I don't want my nails to grow faster, I just want them stronger so they don't break and bend easily. Any ideas? How can I make my nails stronger?
I used to have the same problem.. then i started to take care of them.. i take a VITAMIN called BIOTIN.(located at your nearest WALMART) and i also apply nail strengthener.. i used to use the brand that they sell at walmart but it doesn`t work as well as the OPI NAIL STRENGTHENER. to get OPI nail stregthener.. go to the nearest nail salon and ask them for it.. it works really good. just apply 2 coats and leave it on for 2 weeks... then remove the polish to let it breath.. then reapply... when your nails grow out fast then it means that you take really good care of it.. its not a bad thing since many people want their nails to grow .... just follow my advice and you would see grat improvement.. i should know because my nails are really healthy now... i can type on the tip of it.. heheHow can I make my nails stronger?

I have really white, dry, flaky cuticles. I use hand moisturizer but then they go yuck again. And how do I get naturally whiter tips? How do I get nicer nails?
Donna Bee has the best answer.

I love natural nails, and with some daily attention, you will be able to have nice nails. The most important thing is to moisturize. A good hand lotion should be applied after each time you wash your hands during the day, and also just before bed. Another good product is a cuticle oil, which will moisturize your cuticle, encourage nail growth, and improve the flexibility of your nails. The best product is a product called TIPS, which you can read about at askcosmetics.com. Keep you nails filed, even if they are short, to make the edges look nice and smooth and to avoid your nails catching on fabrics and breaking or tearing. Don't use your nails as tools, either. Eat a well balanced diet, and drink enough water so that you are hydrated from the inside, and you're all set!

If that's not in your budget or you can't seem to find it, try asking your mom about Eucerin cream. It's really very cheap and I wouldn't be surprised if you had some sitting around. It's for very dry skin and will work wonderfully on your cuticles! =)

What do girls think when they see a guy who has his nails polished with color?

Reason im asking is because im a guy who recently began getting pedicures and manicures this past summer and i like to wear colored nail polish on my toenails. Right now im wearing a color called strawberry margarita by OPI.What do girls think when they see a guy who has his nails polished with color?
You just have a feminine side to you.

It's not wrong, don't listen to the others.

Some girls might think nailpolish is cute on guys, but others might stereotype you.

But the manicures and pedicures, there's certainly nothing wrong with that. You're allowed to look after yourself. What do girls think when they see a guy who has his nails polished with color?
    I think he is gay
    That's just, reeeally weird.

    Most girls would think ';GAY';

    Yeah, yeah ';Don't judge a book by it's cover';

But appearance is something that is important, like for first impressions. And if your nails are like that, people probably just won't take you seriously, and yes girls will think your gay.
Thats odd. Does he have gender issues? Or is his mom a manicurist practising up?
well i really hate to tell you this but that's wrong, it would be different if it was BLACK! but pink?? Pink shirts maybe but no pink nails
uh... ok? dude i get manicure and pedicures too but i get clear. im not making fun of you.. infact i think you're brave
    adventurous....and gay.
never heard of a guy wearing nail polish before, but some girls might think its sexy, i guess.. lol and some will take time getting use to. my advice, dont worry bout what girls think.. if they dont like it theyre not the right one for you.
If it were black I would like it.

But not the toes. That's just weird.
    EEWWW R U GAY?
It really creeps me out because I don't even ususally paint my nails colors. You can still get a pedicure if you want but dont get it colored.
    i think GAY
well girls think ewwwwww weird. Well if its on your toenails and no one sees it i guess its ok but if everyone sees it. well...
gay, or has a big feminine side
queer, gay, ******, pansy.... the list goes on and on.
It's not my style lol.... I don't really care if he has really nice nails...just not with girly nail polish.
amusing at first..but seriously? probably homosexual. not in an offensive way. i wod believe u if u said u wernt

    v
    we think gay lol
Gay. Nail polish is for hot chicks.
ummm........i think its gay and fagitish as well as many other girls! especially it ur happy to call it strawberry margarita! it its black i think ur goth.
HAHAH i dont you need a girl to answer that really! You can answer that yourself!

    P.S. Thats Really gay!
    A Jose Queervo.
uh yuck lol but if its pink or colorfuk than gay but black goth or emo
If I saw a guy wearing that shade (or nail polish in general) I would think he was gay. If was black and on your finger nails I would think you was a rocker or gothic.. But the fact that you paint your toe nails at all is kinda odd. Sorry.
    They'll think you are gay!

Thanks for taking yourself off the breeding list!

    hahhaha
Most men are way too insecure to wear a 'color' on their fingernails ... but there are many men who want 'color' on their toenails, but tend to 'show them off' only to people who know and understand. I actually have met and talked with several men who work fingernail polish ... some are 'transgender' and some are 'goth' ... I find everyone has something interesting to say, and many become my friends ... I'm NOT 'a girl' though ... I'm an older woman, past menopause, a 'crone' ... but I like seeing men who have well cared for nails as much as I do women ... but the key words are 'well cared for' and not 'gaudy' or 'overdone' ...
ummmmm why...i wouldn't date a guy who did that
    gay if its pink

but when emo and punk guys put on black its hot
    uuuuummm....eww...Not cool
Having your nails neat and clean is fine, even clear nail polish is OK.

Colored nail polish is for women , if that's what you think you are, go knock yourself out .
    gay

Can you do glitter tips on short, natural nails? How much is it for a french manicure with custom colors?

I love getting manicures and having long nails but I can't cause I have to play piano. Is it possible to ask them to do glitter tips on natural nails? Or ask them to change the color? How much would it be for glitter tips on natural nails? How about a French manicure on natural nails but asking them to change the colors (ex. instead of white tips, red tips.)Can you do glitter tips on short, natural nails? How much is it for a french manicure with custom colors?
Getting glitter tips will be the same price as a french manicure. Since your nails are short, they will usually paint it on with a thin brush instead of airbrushing. You can get any color you want for no additional price, including glitter, because they usually have a bunch of different thin-brush colors.

Any tips on how to stop biting my nails?

I have bitten my nails for most of my life, and I know it is a really bad habit, but I automatically do it whenever I get nervous or bored. I have tried bad tasting nail varnishes, but I just bite that off and bite my nails. Any help on how I can stop biting them for good?Any tips on how to stop biting my nails?
I also have been biting my nails for a long time. I have tried the exact same things you have, but like you- I chew it off. I also chewed at the skin around my nail when I was nervous or bored. Put some of your favorite nail polish on and you won't want to take it off, or, get a manicure. If you don't think that this will help you- then listen to this. If you chew on your nails, you could get a blood infection or, you could just get sick in general. You have many different bacteria in your nails, even if you think you wash them good enough.

That's what got me to stop. I wouldn't like to be sick from biting my nails so I stopped. Try thinking of that next time.

Best of luck. :]Any tips on how to stop biting my nails?
    Yes,

whenever you dont need to use your hands, sit on them.

if your in school and you need to use your hand to write, sit on the one you don't use.

    Chew gum or small candy.

Think of how dumb you look biting your nails [that may be harsh, im sorry]

and think of how other people see you when you do it.

You wouldn't pick your nose, or a wedgie in public .[at least i hope not.]

Think of biting your nails as bad as that.

    hahha [:
Put neosporn On before you leave the house and carry some around with you...The nasty taste will help break the habit, and the ointment will cure and heal, and Disinfect the exposed skin
Try artificial nails you can't bite through them and if you try, it will hurt ur original nail underneath.
Get a friend or sibling to give you a really hard poke every time they see you doing it. Eventually you'll hate the pokes and won't do it. Get someone you're around a lot

I'm sure you can, but it would look extremely tacky. To make them look more professionally done you should take off the nail polish first. As for consequences, I doubt there will be any, but just to be safe...take the nail polish off first. :)Can you glue on press on nails over fingernails with nail polish?

What is an easy way to remove fake nails?

Last time, I kinda just ripped em off. That hurt and was pretty annoying. Any suggestions?

:DWhat is an easy way to remove fake nails?
The best, and most effective way to remove acrylic nails (I am assuming that is what you have?), is to soak them in PURE acetone. Avoid nail polish remover since it is diluted too much, and won't work as well as pure acetone does. It will take you 30 minutes at least, but just remember to never use any force when removing them. Just soak them in the acetone for about 30 minutes. Then, carefully begin to scrape the softened acrylic off with an orange stick while your nails are still immersed in the acetone because once you remove them from it, the acrylic will harden up again within only a few minutes of being exposed to open air. If it doesn't come off all the way on the first try. that's OK. Just continue to soak them for another 5-10 minutes and try again. It WILL come off before too long.

This IS the best method, and it is the preferred method used by the majority of nail professionals. Sure, the cheap salons will remove them in like 5-10 minutes for you. And how do they do it so quickly? By forcing them off of your nails by either prying them off, ripping them off, or using nippers and literally tearing them off of your natural nails. Do you have any idea what kind of damage that causes to your natural nails? It does a LOT of damage, that is for sure. And, it hurts a lot too. This is never the way nails should be removed. Ever. There were some things that were suggested that I'd like to comment on, if I may. I am not trying to put down others, I just want to clarify a few things real quick. One answer suggested to soak them inhot water for 5-10 minutes. Water will not do work in the removal of acrylic nails. Simple as that. You need to use an organic solvent. Water is a solvent, but it is not the type of solvent that will work for this type of process. Another answerer strongly suggested using polish remover with 'ACETATE', LOL! Sorry, but I had to laugh at the exceptionally bold emphasis he put into his answer as if it was THE one and only correct answer - and that him, being a TV as he admits to, automatically qualifies him as an expert in the field of nails. I disagree because it takes many years before anyone can be considered an expert in any field. And even then, not everyone achieves that sort of status. It takes many years of hard work and dedication to become highly knowledgeable in any field. Such a strong statement, wow! That isn't a bad thing normally -except when the answer is wrong! Then it's a little overdone, to say the least! His answer - Acetate, as in 'Ethyl Acetate' is normally used in non-acetone polish remover. And, non-acetone polish remover does NOT remove acrylic.

That's all I wanted to say! Not trying to offend, or make fun of anyone. I just wanted to kindly clarify things a little so that others who might read these answers don't get the wrong information, that's all. No harm intended!

Anyway, best of luck to you! What is an easy way to remove fake nails?
Hi.. First off, they are FALSE nails and not FAKE nails -there is a difference...

As a transvestite, I'm very much into a situation of ';nails on - nails off';, and the best way to remove FALSE nails is to soak your nails in nail polish remover with ACETATE..... Acetate will soften up the glue substantially for you to more or less ';peel'; the nails off.

    Rachelle In High Heels..
I just took mines out yesterday!

one of my fingers the nail was coming out so i was like if this one is coming out, so is the rest! lol i wasnt gna be stuck with fake nails on 9 fingers while one of them were out...ugly looking huh? haha anyways i just bit mine off to tell you the truth because that is the easiest way also it hurts yes your right about that one lol...some people say they stick their fingers inside nail polish remover...tried that...didnt work! biting them worked for me better!
There are special chemicals that you can buy at like Shoppers that you rub the nails against the brushes on the inside and it works pretty well, i've used them before. Your welcome! It doesn't take too long only about half an hour for all of them.
I paid 10 dollars at a nail salon and they had me soak my fingers in acetone for half an hour and then they came off really easily and none of this hurt. It was a bit time consuming but ripping them off kinda freaked me out, lol.
Well let them soak in warm water for at lease 5-10 min and always if you buy them at a store look on the back it will tell u how

Like the ladies above me... It makes your cuticles softer, to prevent hang nails, or makes it easier to push or clip your cuticles. Also, it contains vitamin E which is very good for both your skin, as well as your nails. It will make them more firm, and will help keep them from discoloring. What does Cuticle oil do for your nails?

If you look in the beauty section where the nails are, you will see a polish that might be called 'No Biting' or something similar. You brush it on your nails and when you go to bite them, they taste awful. I used this on my 10 year old daughter who wouldn't quit biting hers. She doesn't do it too often anymore.
you bite them when you're stressed.

find other ways to de stress yourself.

positive things, like exercise, yoga etc.
my mom use to bite her nails when she was young.

she said that she stopped by sitting on her

    hands every time

    she started

    to bite her nails.
I used to have the same problem.

Whenever I sat down and had nothing else to do, I'd

bite my nails. I trained myself to sit on my hands, or just

put the tips of my fingers beneath my legs, so I wouldn't be

tempted. Also, as you already mentioned, putting nail polish

on helps, since the taste is terrible. Even worse, though,

nail polish remover leaves a HORRIBLE taste, and it stays

on your fingers for days. If you rub your nails with it maybe

once a day, you'd definitely not want to bite them!
put poision on them so when you bit them you have to be rushed to the ER. That will make u stop!!!
paint them really pretty or have them done so they look to pretty to bite. And i don't know where she got it but i know this girl who bought some stuff u put on ur nails and it tastes really bad when u bite em.

    hope i helped!!!
    Get a manicure.
I used to have the same problem and still do at times. I try to keep nail polish on it stops me from biting them since it has a bad taste... but everynow and then I dont feel like painting my nails and start biting again... good luck and keep the polish on! hahah!
I had the same problem and I tried that anti nail biting polish. Every time I went to bite my nails it had this awful bitter taste. That worked for about a week, and then I started back again. The only way I could really stop was to actually invest money and get my nails done.... its really all about will power.

    Good luck!!!!
Don鈥檛 apply nail polish coz it contains toxic ingredients, including phthalates, toluene, and formaldehyde.

    Wear gloves.
Nail polish. This works for me, because I think it tastes GROSS!

    LoL

But they make a special nail polish -type thing that you apply to your nails ( Its clear) And when you go to bite them , it tastes VERY gross. This will help you stop XD
Well at beauty stores they sell really bad tasting nail polish but its colorless. When you put it on your nails every time you put your nails to your mouth you won't be tempted to bite!
yo can get a see threw nail polish called ''cut and grow''

it works i used to bit my nails ALL THE TIME!!

what it does is when you bite, u have this vile yaste in ur mouth but it does you no harm.

u can get it frm local pharmacies

    good luck
i would put nail polish remover on them cause it taste gross
i have no clue, bc i have the same issue.
Use nailpolish EVERYDAY!! And I get monthly manicures, that helps too.

Is it safe to cut my cockatiels nails by myself?

I had my two cockatiels for a year after now. They were already big when I took them over from a relative. They won't come out of the cage by themselves, so it's not easy to take them out. In the past one had an eye infection and I took it out once a day for a week. Wow! It was nervwrecking for me. So how can I cut thier nails, as it hasn't been done for more than a year.Is it safe to cut my cockatiels nails by myself?
Cutting a cockatiel's nails entails a lot of danger if you have not done it before. If you grip the fella too tight you could collapse its delicate rib cage and if you clip too much of the nail off the overgrown cuticle will bleed excessively. However, there is a great product called Sandy Perches that I found at Pet Supermarket that had my cockatiel's nails back to normal within a three weeks. The perch is sand blasted mahogany, it's non-porous so it won't let disease breed, and it comes in all sorts of colors. It files the nails in a gentle but quite steady manner and if you use the perches permanently it will maintain the nails indefinitely. I was so relieved to find this product and hope you will gain as much relief as I have from it. Good luck with your two cockatiels! Is it safe to cut my cockatiels nails by myself?
Yes, but when trimming any animals nails you have to watch out for a tiny little vein in the top on the nail. Do Not cut below this as it will be painfull to the bird an may cause infection
sure just dont cut too far or they will start bleeding
I used to work at a pet superstore and we used to cut bird's nails or wings for free. I had to also go through a whole crate of parakeets and clip wings. (that's not something I'd recommend doing unless you have experience in it!) If you feel you must have someone else do it, call your local pet store (make sure they have someone there that is experienced with this!!!) and see if they will charge you for it.

If you don't really interact with the bird, it will be a bit difficult for you to attempt to do this, without help. Have someone do the clipping, while you hold the bird. I'm sure the bird would feel safer in your hands than someone else's.

Look for the red vein in the nail. it will be darker than the nail itself. Don't get too close to that, otherwise you'll have a LOT of blood all over the place! This goes for (almost) any kind of animal. It's just the same as clipping your own nail, and catching the skin under the nail. It hurts bad, and bleeds like crazy!

I recommend having stipic powder around just in case. You can get it in many forms now, not just powder. I had the q-tip lookin kind when I would clip my ferret's nails, just in case.

An alternative to clipping would be to get the perch covers that are like sand paper. That will wear the nails down enough so you don't have to clip them. They just wrap around any size perch, and are simple and work great too!
I find it easier to use a nail file on my cockatiel;s nails. She isn't

very tame, so I wrap her in a towel with just her feet out. Then

I file gently until they are blunt and not too long, that way I don't

have to worry about cutting too deep and worrying about the

bleeding. (if you do cut too deep, keep some vaseline handy,

you can pack some on the nail to stop the bleeding.)
    Of course
You should be able to see the vein in the toenail, clip the nails back to just ahead of the vein and they will be fine, if you accidently clip one to short you can use a product called quick stop on them and it will clot the blood, you should be able to find it at a pet store or vet.
I think it is better to let a qualified person do it that way your bird don't think of you as the Villon. It don't cost that much and if you cut them too much you could injure your bird. Good luck !
DONT do it unless your POSTIVE you know what your doing. do some reseach on how to cut your birds nails off.

  • How do you do your own gel nails?

I get my nails done regularly and pay a fortune for them! Does anyone know if it is hard to do your own GEL nails? How do you do your own gel nails?
It would not be cheap to do your own. The product and tools are very expensive and on top of that you would need to buy the professional products since they don't sell those kind of products at general beauty stores. Most places you can order from you have to have a nail license. Just regular acrylics are hard to do let alone gel nails. So if you don't want to go to nail school your best bet is keep paying the money to have them done. Good Luck!!

Why is easier to shave and cut the nails after a shower?

do the hair pores and the nails soften? That happens to me.

Also the air in bathroom becomes humid. I forget that the mirror becomes blurry, the shaving is perfect. Why is easier to shave and cut the nails after a shower?
hair%26amp;nails don't have any pores, per se, such as those in our skin, but there are air spaces which absorb water when we bathe. anything that becomes water-logged softens (try soaking a very hard piece of week old bread in liquid - pretty mushy, huh?) the air becomes humid because the steam from the hot/warm shower water can not escape, it stays in the bathroom - humidity is the amount of moisture in the air, therefore: steam(water vapor)+bathroom air = humidityWhy is easier to shave and cut the nails after a shower?
the hot water helps soften the nails and the stream from the shower softens the the hair on your face thus making it easier to shave.
Yes, it is true, to shave and cut the nails.
Hot water softens the nails as well as the hair and of course soap helps a lot. It smoothes the skin.

all you have to do is paint your nails a base coat color (or have a friend do that part).

after that comes the design, you can basically draw whatever you want.

i'd recommend getting a white color to draw hearts or flowers.

How ofton do I trim a small dogs nails?

How expensive is it to do at a salon for dogs? How ofton do I trim a small dogs nails?
    We charge $10 at Petco....

How often varies...depends on how active the dog is and what the dog eats...usually once a month...

you could get nail clippers and do it your self...

If the nails are white: clip only the white NOT to the pink

If the nails are black: clip slowly..look are the nail and dont clip past the black dot (the quik) in the center.

Also if you do it yourself get quik stop powder to stop any possible bleeding...

If you go into a salon they will show you how...we dont bite! :)

Hope that helps! How ofton do I trim a small dogs nails?
I just went with my friend to get her baby rottweilers nails cut at petsmart and they charged 12.00.. ( but the first time is free) but if you walk her on the cement daily, that automatically files her nails anyway and its alot cheaper especially if you have several dogs
We charge $10 for a nail trim. You can do them yourself if your dog is well behaved enough. If your dog has white nails just trim almost to the pink part (ie: the quick). If you trim into the quick it does hurt the dog -- not horribly bad... but it might give them a bad thing to associate with the nail trimming. So just almost to it. If your dog has black nails you can just take a litle off... then a little more... a little more... until you can see just a little tiny bit of the quick, kind pink in the very center. There is a product called ';Quik Stop'; you can get at any pet store... you just put some on the tip if you get the quick and it stops the bleeding.

A lot of people are too worried they're gonna hurt their dog or cut too deep, or the dog is just gets too freaked durring nail trims, so they bring them in to us.
    $ 10, every month
Usually dogs need their nails trimmed every 4-6 weeks. Our clinic charges $11.65
My Chihuahua has black nails so I am scared to do it so I asked petco and they said 4 bucks a set.Like who would get only front or back paws done? Wouldnt they all need done, ya know.
you should take them to a salone just get some nail trimmers and dont cut they to the black part just the white.

It should work to attach it. But, if you are looking for a fast grab and durability, nothing beats Locktite. Can liquid nails be used to repair an iron chair leg?
Don't use Liquid Nails! The proper fix is to have it welded, but if it is only decorative and doesn't have to bear any weight, pick up some ';JB Weld.'; It's an adhesive that mixes up like epoxy but cures like metal. You can find it at hardware or auto parts stores. If possible, don't just glue the two broken surfaces, build up some excess adhesive around the break and blend the repair using a file or sandpaper.
Though Liquid Nails is an excellent adhesive for many purposes, when gluing metal to metal it will not work. As previously mention welding would be ideal. In the absence of having the ability to weld it, your best bet would be to get a good two-part epoxy, made specifically for metal. I would be careful in the future putting too much weight on it though!
As long as you don't plan to sit on the chair, liquid nail will work, but liquid nail can be messy. i would recommened using a clear caulk
Use JB-WELD you could probably even use it again.
    no need welded
    iron has to be welded.

  • What have you tried to stop biting your nails, and did it work?

I'm a nail biter, and was just wondering if anyone has successfully stopped biting their nails, and how they managed to do it.What have you tried to stop biting your nails, and did it work?
I used to bite my nails ALL the time, but I have since stopped and have not bitten them in over 3 years. My trick??? I mentally had to tell myself not to bite them. If I started to bite my nails, I would immediately stop grab a nail file and smooth it out. Once my nails grew out they looked so great that I didn't want to bite them. It just takes self control. What have you tried to stop biting your nails, and did it work?

I was biting my nails, untill I start smoking.
it's best if you go see a shrink about this, nail biting is habit caused by your mind instability, i am not trying to say you are out of your mind, for example, if you are interested or excited into something, the first thing u do is to bite.. they can be treated successfully but if you treat it without care, it will just cause more weird things, like switching to chewing gums, smoking, etc etc..

it's wrong to change the habit with another.. it's best to change the bad habits with psycologically cure.. i am pretty sure it won't take more than a couple of months to treat for nail biting.

    hope that helps
manicure !!!! ..yes it works ! coz ';eating'; nail polish taste weird !!!!
Try putting things on nails such a nail polish remover without acetone which will leave a horrible taste in your mouth also, repeating this eventually will help your brain not want to do it.

The stylist would chloroform them while they worked at their groovy office job and then as they were passed out, the stylist would paint their nails and then would return them back to the office where they'd revive her with some smelling salts.

How do you remove hair dye off gel nails?

I had gel nails put on today, with french tips, and my sister dyed my hair. While I was rinising, the dye caught on my fingers (but not on my thumbs) and now the nails are a lovely shade of apricot. It hasn't stained the fake nail part (the white part) just the coating over the top.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove the colour without the nails coming off or going back to the nail salon? How do you remove hair dye off gel nails?
Sponge buttermilk onto the stain with a make-up sponge. Let it sit on the nails for two or three minutes and then wash it away. If the stain lightens but doesn鈥檛 go away, repeat the process one more time. OR Make a paste with Arm %26amp; Hammer Baking Soda and whole milk. Keep the mixture fairly thick. Using a very soft bristled toothbrush, work the paste into the stained nail. Let sit for a few seconds, up to one minute, and then wash away. How do you remove hair dye off gel nails?
Are you absolutely certain they are UV gel nails? Did the tech use ANY liquid and powder on your nails? If so, you have acrylic nails and yes, they will pick up stains from chemicals very easily. However, real UV gel nails do not stain as easily, and hair color should not have affected them in any way at all.
the stain is embedded in the nail polish top coat

you'll have to use polish remover and re-do ur nails ... the salon will do this for cheap

the underyling gel will be just fine and is undamaged.

    good luck
try a wipe of acetone, but not too much because it will hurt the nail. Just a little to remove the stain. Then you'll have to put a clear sealant on top
